Types of Restaurants – things to consider

Whatever type of food you fancy, there is sure to be a good restaurant nearby that will cater to your needs. Whether it is a Vietnamese banquet, a Greek feast or Italian take-away, there is a wide range of eateries to choose from.

Besides the food, think about the ambience of the restaurant you want. You may be catering for an office party or wedding party. Different restaurants can provide different moods, for an informal lunch or a formal dinner party. You may also opt for a restaurant that has a private dining room, for discrete business discussions.  You can choose from carveries, smorgasbords, buffets, and a la carte menus.

In addition, you can eat at a fully licensed restaurant or Bring Your Own (BYO). It is a good idea to call ahead and find out what type of liquor license the restaurant has. Some fully licensed places allow you to bring your own alcohol, but you may end up paying a corkage fee.

BYO or Fully Licensed

Fully licensed restaurants have a wide selection of wine, spirits, and beer to accompany your meal. You can also choose a restaurant that has a BYO license. This means you bring your own alcohol to go with your food. Moreover, there are fully licensed restaurants that will allow you to BYO, but may charge you a corkage fee for the privilege. This usually amounts to a dollar a head, or a set fee.

BYO restaurants have the added advantage of you being able to bring a favorite bottle of wine or beer, something out of the ordinary that a fully licensed restaurant may not have in stock. As well, BYO restaurants generally are cheaper than fully licensed restaurants. It is a good idea to phone ahead to find out what type of license the restaurant you are going to has. This way you can decide to bring or buy before you leave the house.

Theatre Restaurants

Theatre restaurants are venues that combine a meal with entertainment. The restaurant usually has a theme to the evening. For example, comedy or medieval themes are popular. The servers get into the swing of things too by dressing for the theme, being part of the antics or encouraging dinner guests to participate in the evening’s entertainment. Most theatre restaurants cater for large groups - the more the merrier.

Theatre restaurants are a good idea for end-of-year functions, hen’s nights out or bucks turns. They are good fun too if you just want a night out with friends.

After the evening’s entertainment is finished, some theatre restaurants provide a disc jockey to keep the party going. This is a good chance to keep things lively, rather then going home and finishing the night early.

Types of Cuisine

Restaurants cater for all tastes. Whether it is a Mongolian barbecue, an English afternoon tea, or an American restaurant you will be able to find the right kind of food to satisfy your tastes. From the exotic to the everyday, you may become spoiled by the choice of cuisine readily available.

If you are planning a social outing or a business function, you will be able to find the right kind of food suitable for the occasion. As well as the right cuisine, think about your budget and the ambience of the venue you choose. These can influence where you decide to eat.
